    This free course explores cultural diversity, cross-cultural communication, cultural adaptation and Australia's diverse cultural makeup. The additional Royal Life Saving module focuses on cultural safety and inclusion and applies key concepts to aquatic facilities and swimming and lifesaving program.

    Who should complete this course?

    The course is designed for aquatic industry personnel, including facility, operations and duty managers; lifeguards and customer service teams; and swim school leaders and instructors, as well as anyone who works with multicultural communities through aquatic facilities or swimming and lifesaving programs.

    What does the course cover?

    The Cultural Diversity, Safety and Inclusion in Aquatics and Lifesaving course combines five learning modules from the SBS Cultural Diversity Program with an additional module developed by Royal Life Saving specifically for the aquatics, swimming and lifesaving sectors. It takes approximately two hours to complete.

    Learning objectives:

    • Understand and recognise the significance of cultural safety and cultural competence in fostering safe and inclusive environments within aquatic facilities and swimming and lifesaving programs.

    • Employ effective communication techniques and language that foster cultural safety and inclusion while demonstrating cultural competence.

    • Explore effective strategies and actions that aquatic facilities and program organisers can implement to foster cultural safety and create inclusive environments for all participants.

    • Consider how the principles of cultural safety, cultural competence, and inclusion can be effectively applied in typical aquatic facility and swimming and lifesaving program scenarios.
